Relativity by Collector’s Workshop: scarce
This is very difficult to find. I have had no less than three request for it over the last two years (hope one of you guys is watching my list) and quite frankly I held on to it thinking that if I returned to performing someday, I would want it in my act. I have now decided to release it.
I would say Rick Thomas got the most from this effect that I have ever seen. It was a very popular items in his show and always received great volunteer reaction and audience response. Although the performance for South Korean TV looses something in translation, you get the idea.
COLLECTORS WORKSHOP (RELATIVITY) . EFFECT A BORROWED WATCH IS ACCIDENTALLY DESTROYED, ONLY TO BE FOUND INSIDE A SEALED CAN WHICH IS ITSELF INSIDE A LOCKED BOX. PRESENTATION PERFORMER BORROWS A SPECTATOR’S WRIST WATCH. “THE THEORY OF RELATIVITY SUGGEST THAT ASTRONAUTS WHO ORBIT THE EARTH IN SPACE AGE SLIGHTLY SLOWER THAN THE REST OF US FOR THE TIME THEY ARE IN SPACE. I DEVELOPED AN EXPERIMENT TO PROVE THIS,’ SAYS THE PERFORMER. THE WATCH IS PLACED IN A BAG AND SWUNG IN THE AIR AT THE END OF A CORD TO SIMULATE THE ORBIT. BUT, ‘WHAP’ , THE WATCH ACCIDENTALLY HITS A TABLE. “I, UH, BELIEVE WE’LL FIND THE WATCH HAS ACTUALLY SLOWED DOWN” PREDICTS THE QUICK-THINKING ENTERTAINER. OPENING THE BAG, THE PERFORMER REMOVES ONLY THE WATCH FACE AND A FEW LOOSE SPRINGS. “YUP, BI GOSH, IT EVEN STOPPED ENTIRELY! HOORAY FOR SCIENCE!” PERFORMER THROWS WATCH OFF-STAGE: “AS A TOKEN OF MY APPRECIATION FOR YOUR SACRIFICE, PLEASE ACCEPT THIS GIFT, WHICH HAS BEEN HANGING FROM THE CEILING OR SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AUDIENCE, SINCE THE START OF THE SHOW.” THE-GIFT WRAPPED BOX IS BROUGHT TO THE STAGE AND UNWRAPPED SLOWLY. A BRASS PADLOCK IS UNLOCKED AND THE HINGED LID IS RAISED. INSIDE THE BOX, IN FULL VIEW OF THE AUDIENCE, IS A CAN OF SOUP. AFTER PRESENTING THE SPECTATOR WITH OTHER SILLY GIFTS FROM THE BOX, PERFORMER HANDS OVER THE CAN AND A CAN OPENER. SPECTATOR OPENS THE CAN, INSIDE IS THE WATCH.
This is a one man effect although Rick performed it with an assistant which may have even added more as the watch is then produced with a chosen time on it that was given by the spectator prior to the “destruction” of the watch. He also used a husband and wife which made wonderful possibilities for comedy situations which he fully exploited!
This is in excellent condition receiving very little use. Ready to go with its own ATA case. The box has a very shiny finish so any apparent imperfections are just reflections.
