Fantasma Original description

Effect: A borrowed ring is placed in an ornate small wooden box which is left in view. A key is given to a spectator for a large box which also remains in view. The small box is shaken so that the ring can be heard inside. At the very last moment the ring is heard to vanish. The box is opened up and indeed it is empty. You ask the spectator in unlock the large box. Upon opening it another box is seen inside. This box is removed and opened and yet another box is found inside. Again the box is opened and a small padlocked box is removed from within. This box is given to the spectator to unlock and open and inside is the borrowed ring!

There have been many versions of the nest of boxes over the years. Some have been extremely expensive. Some have been crafted in exotic woods and some have had elaborate locks. Some have offered just a few boxes, others have offered many, some times too many, causing the performance to drag. We think we’ve found the right balance, four boxes and the right look, professional without being exotic for the sake of being exotic. We also found the right method, adapted from the design of the Theodore Bamberg, the legendary Okito (1875 – 1963). We could have made our boxes in mahogany, ebony or teak but audiences don’t care about the kind of wood. They can hardly tell at stage distances. They do care that the boxes look and sound substantial and it makes it much more pleasant if they are also colorful and attractive. Our boxes are solidly constructed, colorful and decorated with authentic looking Chinese designs in imitation gold leaf. The locks look solid and tamper-resistant. We also supply a matching rattle box to allow you to vanish whatever you may wish to have appear in your next of boxes. For the performer who wants to add the suspense and excitement of a well performed nest of boxes routine, these will serve you well. Buddha may not have treasured them, but you will.
