Effect for Double Block Release by Mel Babcock

The magician presents a beautifully crafted felt lined wooden box from the Magic House of Babcock. Six solid blocks of different colors are shown and examined by the audience. The magician places all six blocks into the box, securing them with a brass rod. threaded through the box to hold them in place. The box is closed and inverted.

The magician then announces that two specific blocks, chosen by a spectator or predetermined, will magically release from the box. When the lid is opened, the two selected blocks fall freely onto the table, while the remaining four blocks remain firmly locked in place by the rod.
